Whew...I've been living life in the fast lane since 2010 started! Too busy to post but now I'm back & motivated to keep updating the blog. Lets see.... In January I got ENGAGED!!! We went away for a weekend at the Greenbriar as boyfriend/girlfriend & came back fiance/fiancee :) Then starts the planning & details which has kept me busy....Work has been crazy busy, my volunteer services are in full swing & spring is here so I've been working in the yard & setting up a garden...and in between all that I've been squeezing in the little activities & family & friends...whew. But it's all good - I probably wouldn't know what to do if I had to slow down!

Fujifilm mini instant camera - instant polaroid style photos the size of credit cards! These are so great, not as great as the original polaroid but each print is so much cheaper than polaroid film, which i think is an endangered species. super duper cute! hmmmm great christmas gift idea!

Yeah! I finally found a bedding set that I love from Pottery Barn! and it was on sale :) I had such a hard time choosing between the colors though, I thought I was going to have to flip a coin. I choose green apple for the master bedroom and I loved the boldness of the red so much I got that too for the guest bedroom :) Okay so that's down...now to finally decide on paint colors for the hall & living room! decisions decisions

Our newest additions! The kitten is about 3 months old and we've had him for a month now and still haven't decided on a name yet! any suggestions are welcome :) Sadie is Kevin's 3 yr. old slobbering ball of wrinkles bloodhound that has now come to our new house! Both are so mischevious and hilarious to watch and play with. The kitten is not afraid of Sadie at all, however if Sadie gets a chance she'll chase him up a tree in an instant.

What a long day of traveling. It's St. Croix to St. Thomas-no more than 30 min flight but in a 8-seater plane! I got to ride co-pilot!!! in fact that is one of the available seats on the plane...Jenny also got to do that when she headed home. Layover in St. Thomas for about 4 hours before heading to Miami (3 hour flight in a BIG plane) for another layover of 3 hours then to Richmond (close to 3 hour flight in a medium plane). Whew! We're gonna need a vacation after all this plane hopping!

St. Croix: Sunset Sail

To conclude our journey Shelli, Scott & myself went on a sunset sail aboard a schooner that is a non-profit educational sailboat that splits its time between Massachuttes &
St. Croix and is geared toward 7th and 8th graders. Evenings & weekends they provide sails to the public in an effort to raise more money for the program. The sunset sail was most fitting as it marked our last night in the Islands...before heading out on a LONG day of traveling back to Richmond. After the sail we met up with Jerry and the Austrailian team for dinner. They have even more traveling to do-it will take them almost 2 days to return home!

12 metre regatta-American Cup race

We were given the opportunity to participate in a 12 metre regatta American Cup race as "stars & stripes" against another team "true north". We did not win but had a fantastic time & thanks to Colin for making it happen. We have also had the chance to experience the Caribbean Carnival

Carnival is such a spectacular time in the Caribbean-for at least a week each island celebrates their carnival and up until now we have just barely missed it by either being a week late or a week early....but....in Sint Maarten on the Dutch side we were right in the middle of it! lots of music, colors, food & culture. We sure dont have parades or celebrations like this!

Sint Maarten (Netherland Antilles) on the Dutch side! We have been able to visit our occupations this week. We went to the Belvedere Community Center which has an excellent program on youth and after school programs as well-Scott was able to spend more time with them as that is his field. Shelli, Jenny & myself went to the Police department and prosecutors office-there was even a crime scene on a cruise ship that they allowed the team to ride along to!! We have done several presentations-one in a restaurant made out of an airplane.

I went parasailing in St. Thomas-between St. John & St. Thomas out of Sapphire Beach! I can now mark that off my To-do list! I've always wanted to do it and what better place than the caribbean? Shelli, Scott & myself went, flew tandem & Scott got to go twice to weigh us down! I can't wait to do it again!

Monday we all had vocation day & my court/probation had to be rescheduled to Tuesday so....I got a new vocation schedule....I was photographer Bob's assistant shooting a beach wedding! It was kinda weird shooting a wedding at 10am on a Monday but it was a destination wedding. I can't really shouldn't post any pics of the wedding party get the official ones from Bob, but i've posted just a few details i was able to capture. From there I went ALL OVER St. John exploring & photographing different points of interest so the whole day was a photo shoot!

I have the distinct priviledge of staying on the island of St. John for a few days with my fabulous host BJ Harris. (how did I get so lucky?!) What a wonderful gem of an island! It is almost 3/4 natural park & has approx. 6,000 year-round residents. It has such a great small town feel and I have not seen a view yet that I did not think was spectacular nor have I met anyone that was not welcoming & smiling. The rest of the team is stationed in St. Thomas and I will be joining them in a few days when I switch hosts. The team did have an opportunity today to ferry over and we all went to Trunk Bay and then had a great BBQ at BJs with her family & friends. We should all be back over here later this week for the St. John club meeting.

The Willy-T is an infamous party boat that cruises around Norman Island...and wouldn't you know it we happened to run into it. It was kinda slow during the day but we caught a glimpse of some jumpers..who happened to be nude...i think i got a photo...legend is if you jump off the willy-t topless you get a t-shirt. Well not to be upstaged I just had to jump off the Willy-T....FULLY CLOTHED IN A BIKINI....sorry folks, I'm representing VA. Yvonne's peer pressure :) jk. Yvonne Shelli & myself jumped aboard the Willy-T, Zeus fixed us up some "painkillers" and we got the stick on tattoos...I was a bit more reserved in getting mine...I think Yvonne is how we got drinks on the house (once again representing VA, remember I'm not on vacation! and if i ever aspire to run for public office getting a Willy-T shirt would definitely end it before it began....), i was fortunate or maybe unfortunate enough to witness someone taking a body shot on the bar...i laughed so hard i didn't think i would stop....I then convinced Shelli that she needed to jump with me and she ALMOST did but opted out after she was hanging off the rail-A for effort though! I don't blame her, I have no idea what i was thinking....Its a great view from the ledge, & I just jumped. There's video....Hey, if I can't skydive here I WILL find the closest thing....good times...

Tortola: Island Hopping & Sailing

Island hopping & sailing the BVI! We had the priviledge of taking out the Chris Marie catamaran with Skipper John Shirley along with Yvonne & Charles. We enjoyed a day of sailing, island hopping to Peter Island where we jumped off of the boat into the Caribbean Sea towards the white sand beaches. We then sailed over to Norman Island where we snorkled the caves & Yvonne grilled fish. Even though we slathered down with sunblock the Caribbean sun is fierce and we got a bit crispy...but nonetheless it was FANTASTIC!
We rushed off to the Rotarct meeting which has such a incredibly motivated & hilarious group of young adults making a positive impact on the local community, Tortola, BVI and the World. The Rotaracts invited us to their usual Friday night hang out Treasure Isle where we sang Karaoke & had some conch fritters, spicy fries & wings....and a few pineapple mojitos, sangria, carib beer...local flavors. The bartender Jason (advertisement for Treasure Isle: join their facebook page!) is at the top of his game & after a few flips of the bottle he torched some flaming mojitos which was spectacular. A few of us headed down to Quitos to see Quito & the Edge do what they do best...music. What more could we ask for? how about not to make us leave tomorrow???

Astrid hosted a Taste of the BVI pot luck BBQ for us at her hacienda! It was so great to meet with everyone and enjoy the local food, drinks & fellowship. The event was set up so wonderfully and all the dishes were fantastic! I think I saw just about everyone behind the bar mixing up drinks at some point-Archie can mix up a mean Mount Gay Rum & Coke! (aged Barbados rum!) I think we all agree that we are going to need a new wardrobe when we leave here because we are eating our way thru the Caribbean! Those johnny cakes are going to get me!

Tortola: Boomba Shack

The World Famous Boomba Shack on Tortola. This is a major tourist attraction - it's just a driftwood bar with lots of photos, flyers, handpainted signs & womens underwear posted everywhere. I got to meet Boomba who loves women but fortunately has a thing for blondes (sorry Shelli!) Recently Paris Hilton visited. This apparently is a WILD place as they host a Full Moon party every month, free special tea but you have to buy the $10 cup :P ...the Boombas on Jost van Dyke has a New Years party that draws hundreds to thousands of people, usually 700 -1000 yachts in the marina during that time.

Tortola: Island Tour 4/17/2009

Island Tour day on Tortola. Today we had a 2 part tour of Tortola via bus. The first one was quick because we had to be at a lunch presentation the Tortola Club but we were able to see the west side of the island and sky world/sky bar. The lunch was incredible, i had curried mutten-GOAT! - garlic grouper & everything else I could. I'm sure gonna miss Popeye at The Morrings because he kep the drinks coming and really took care of "his girls". His lemonade is spectacular! We were supposed to have massages done by Donna's husband today but since the other half of the tour was after lunch we had to skip that, hopefully we can reschedule! RC Tortola members joined us on the island tour dubbed "The Rotary Express" and it was a wild ride! AG Vance came aboard with a bottle of wine in each hand-white or red-and wine glasses from the Moorings dining area! We were also pleased to be joined by Charles, Lorna, Mary, Abby, Percy & the patient bus driver! Abby took over the tour and announced everything for us! The wine was going fast so we made a pit stop at a bar overlook with a "honor policy" (leave the money on the bar & go). We also stopped by the world famous Boomba Shack and had the pleasure to meet Boomba himself. We laughed & joked the entire time - it was definitely a most memorable experience! Repeat anyone? :)

Tortola: Vocation Day

Today was vocation day. I was scheduled for the Sandy Lane Centre (substance abuse counseling), Magistrates Court & Supreme Court & Social Development. I didn't make it to social development due to time constraints, by the time I was finished with Supreme Court it was 5pm and all was closing up. Tonight I am having dinner with my host family and we have been invited over to Barbara & Toms for dinner-who are also hosting a team member. The host families have been INCREDIBLE. I cannot say enough good things about them as hosts and as people - outstanding characters.

It's our first day on the job and we had a sunrise presentation! then headed to the Governor's House for a courtsey call, back to a lunch meeting and then reception at the Governor's house. What incredible food we ate today! Salted fish & johnny cakes for breakfast - fried plantains, curried chicken, grouper & ribs for lunch. Coconut shrimp, eggrolls, quiche, tuna melts & wine & rum punch at the reception....yummy. Tommorow is a busy day - its a vocation day and i have 4 locations to attend!

Caribbean!

We have arrived! After an early am flight from Richmond to Miami to St. Thomas (luckily we bypassed Puerto Rico) we ended up in St. Thomas where we took an hour long ferry ride to Tortola. We were greated by our hosts in a most fantastic Caribbean way-Mocka Jumbies -for lack of a better word it was dancers on stilts. We then headed to the local restaurant Pussers for some international cuisine. I chose the jerk chicken & Rum Punch which both had a bit of a kick! I'm my host's home, which is most incredible - both the family and the home - overlooking the ocean & I can hear the water...ahhhh relaxing. Tommorow starts with a breakfast meeting which means bright and early!...but who can sleep in paradise?

New Beginnings

There is lots to learn with the ambassadorship program I'm about to embark on in the morning & I'm looking forward to soaking it all in. But what I'm looking forward to the most is discovering myself...The last year or so in particular has been very overwhelming for me, stressful to say the least. I've felt like i've been taken advantage of, unappreciated, inadequate & taken for granted in all departments of my life. The last few weeks have been the worst personally and i think the timing of this experience was truly a blessing of divine intervention. I take full responsiblity because i've let it get this far-i just don't know how to stop a fast moving train. I've taken on too much in all aspects of my life and it's taking it's toll on my health, my spirit & my life. Sometimes I don't know who I am anymore. I have focused on doing for everyone else and neglected those i love, and most importatnly myself...simply because I just haven't mastered the art of saying no. I need to regain control so my life will stop running me. I leave today, poetically Easter Sunday - a day of hope, faith, love and new beginnings...a fresh start in life.

I must be inspired by all things equestrian lately and just don't realize it! LOL! The horses belong to my cousins -Jack & Moony-those are the horses names, not my cousins! The photo of me in the foot of snow last week (before it turned 75 degrees 2 days later and melted it all) where I was standing literally to my knees in snow so it was pouring into my boots, tripod would not stay put so i was so worried the camera would come toppling face first into the snow...but lucky for me it did not and i got the shot :)

WOW. We had a totally unexpected snow storm blizzard Sunday! It left us with AT LEAST 12 inches of snow if not more, some lost power :(. I don't think I have ever seen it snow like this before. Since I was snowed in and couldn't go to work obviously...couldn't get my car out of my driveway even if I wanted to (which I totally did not!) - Mamie, Austin & I made the best of it and spent the day riding 4-wheelers, tubing and having snowball fights. And of course photos, lots and lots of photos. The snow makes for such a lovely background! Oh...did I mention that they are calling for 78 degrees this weekend? just 5 days after the biggest snowstorm this decade?

Bonjour! This weekend our team met up for a crash course in French and a team building exercise on the high elements ropes course at the Shady Grove YMCA. It sure was difficult but I made it to the end of both challenges! Woohoo! You really do learn alot about yourself & what you are capable of physically and mentally, as well as to trust your team mates. Unfortunately one of our team members will no longer be joining us but we are looking forward to the idea of adding a new person to the team!

Excerpt from my article published in the monthly newsletter-gives a bit of insight as to what my life will be like living in the Caribbean this Spring!

"Pack your bags, we’re going to the Caribbean!
The new year started off in full swing when I attended the GSE Team Orientation in High Point, N.C along with fellow team member Scott Brugh, team leader Jerry Fields and District Governor Bill Pollard. We joined the Ambassadorial Scholars and Cultural Scholars from our district as well as other teams from North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia.
This orientation was by far the most informative, practical and worthwhile conference I have ever participated in. It began with an overview of Rotary-past, present, future, the mission, projects and the foundation for the cultural exchange programs. The expectations of the group study exchange program as a whole and as individuals were outlined. Since all team members are “non-Rotarians” we did not know most of the details and it is fundamental to learn about the organization we are going to represent!
For me, the most valuable component of the weekend were the seminars led by previous team members. By openly sharing experiences, both good and bad, we were able to gain a better understanding of what to expect and how to be flexible and react if something unexpected occurs. They were straight-forward and honest which allowed us to cover a large amount of information, leaving no question unanswered. We were able to view past team presentations which provided insight as to what information our target audience is interested in. The meals, social hour and roommates allowed for us to reflect with other groups while providing an opportunity to work on our social skills of talking and interacting with people we have never met. This orientation session should not be missed! The knowledge, tips and insight presented was of incredible value and relevant to our preparations and the journey ahead.
It made me even more eager about this experience both professionally and personally.

Currently our team is preparing our presentation, designing brochures, business cards & a website, collecting rotary pins & flags as gifts for host clubs, creating gifts for host families, completing medical evaluations and inoculations. As our departure nears we will provide the district clubs with the team’s website so that you can share in our travels.
We would all like to thank our sponsoring clubs and District 7600 for this incredible opportunity. We look forward to representing and promoting Rotary, Virginia and the United States, rams and serving our communities with the skills and experiences we will gain."

Brrrr. it's cold outside! Yesterday started off in the single digits, around 7 degrees farenheit & high for the day was about 17 degrees here in Central Virginia.Today is a bit warmer but I'm still wishing for spring! My fingers get frostbite from trying to take pictures outside so I haven't been able to do much lately!

Rachel, Overton and I enjoyed a play day last Sunday - jumping in the piles of leaves and throwing them at each other. O raked them up into nice piles so I told him that I tricked him - we really weren't playing, I was just getting him to clean the yard! haha! I was so nice to get outside and drag them away from the t.v., computer and nintendo DS - it was just us and laughter. It's moments like these that their childhood memories are made of...ahhh...good times. And of course, in typical Sarah fashion, I had to turn it into a photosession-...but not before I dived head first into the pile of leaves!

Too funny! I used the "pick one for me" and this is what popped up. I have a degree in psychology and I was recently discussing with a friend how "we" as psychologists try to think through everything and analyze the situation which doesn't always work. Sometimes you just have to feel.

crazy busy

yeah, it's been a month since I last blogged...life has been crazy busy hectic lately, like for the last 2 months and if I can just make it thru October...What's kept me so tied up has been the 2 weddings of my 2 close gal pals. I'm maid of honor as well as helper/planner extraordinaire...and did I mention they are a week apart? uh huh. The first one kicks off this Saturday. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love event planning and helping out my girls - so much in fact that I would seriously consider doing it part-time, but it's definitely like running a small business. I would never ever do it again for free (these are my girls so I would never take a dime from them, but for anyone outside of my immediate circle it's gonna cost em' :) It's also reassured me that I don't want a wedding - I never really have and now I know for sure that it's not for me. It's a beautiful tradition & ceremony that I will happily help plan, but my own? no way - I have a hard enough time making simple decisions (it's the gemini in me), much less decide on my colors & cakes & flowers & favors & bridal party....too much unnecessary stress! If he wants a traditional wedding he's welcome to plan it himself or we'll just run off to Vegas! I'm sure that'll offend some people....And then there's the drama that ALWAYS rears it ugly head...why is it that weddings bring out the worst in people - it's supposed to be the happiest time in a couples life and their family and friends who are supposed to love and support them bring unnecessary drama -I have never heard of a wedding yet where there was not ridiculous people & issues...anyway, that's a whole different blog! However it has taught me the etiquette of inviting divorced parents/guests & estranged family...sheesh!
Between designing invites, programs, favors, picking dresses & shoes, hosting showers and bachelorette parties, engagement & bridal photo sessions and now last minute details - pedicures & rehearsals & then the big day....I'm exhausted and all wedded out. And I don't really have time for this blog...back to the weddings! Oh...a pic of Jen's engagement session too!

Okay, I'll admit it and I know it's pathetic...but...I really like the new 90210! It's very reminiscent of the original Beverly Hills 90210 which was "THE SHOW" to watch in middle and high school then went off the air maybe my freshman year in college? I wasn't going to give into the much anticipated hype about it...I mean, I've already got enough shows i'm addicted to already, I don't really need to add another...and I really am not that interested in high school dramas....or am I? I like Gossip Girl too! I just find it hard to believe that they are all like 16 years old when they are clubbing & drinking & dealing with some pretty heavy drama...oh, but wait it is the city...oh yeah, and it is t.v. I feel kinda stupid watching it but I'm the target audience right? sheesh, it's not like it's the disney channel...and no I don't watch hanna montana!...unless of course I'm keeping my cousins and it's not an option.

with super cheap but very good quality prints -starting at 6 cents! Shipping is a little higher than most because it's overseas but totally worth it if you order tons like I do because prints are so super cheap that you still come out with a great deal. Promotion right now is 400 free prints for signing up! I hope they don't put themselves out of business by practically giving photos away...So if you are thinking about it & you want to be super nice to me :) you can send me your email or comment it and I'll "refer you" so that I can get some extra credits :)
I haven't ordered any yet but I did sign up as it came highly recommended by some scrapbook gals that know their stuff. According to 2sassyscrappers-The deal was 400 free prints, 8x8 photo book for signing up, & for ordering by a certain date they got another 400 free prints, 5 free mousepads plus an offer for 24 free 12x18 prints...149 prints were ordered, subtotal was $3.60 and then shipping was $12.xx... (which is because they are based in Hong Kong and prints shipped via Airmail in about a week so shipping will be higher but they promise it is actual shipping costs). But still $16 for 149 prints is excellent. The paper is Frontier by FujiFilm, that is thinner than the Kodak paper.They were shipped in a regular cardstock envelope or box depending on total. Too bad they aren't based in the states so we can keep it local but I'm not opposed to online overseas business...and please comment on any photo sites you use!

I have HIGH SPEED INTERNET - FINALLY!!!! You probably heard my screams of joy from wherever you are. This little town has finally upgraded and I was so anxious I was on the waiting list. WOO HOO! I thought that the high speed would reduce my time online, but it's obvious - the faster the connection, the more I want to see. Flickr and myspace and just surfing the net can dangerously keep me occupied for hours so I'm going to have to be careful! But now I can get back to scrap attacks & 2sassy scrappers and all the other great message boards!

Tools of the Trade

Kevin's a man in uniform! These are a few pics of his new tools of the trade - he was more than willing to turn in his old tools for these! He started the new job as deputy sheriff a few weeks ago and now he's in the academy for the next 6 months. He's loving it, just not the getting up at 3:30am & running a few miles every morning part! It's a pretty grueling schedule of P.T., class, field, training & tests all day everyday. eat.sleep.repeat. but he's handling it incredibly well & is anxious to get to work! It's the first job that he's ever look forward to going to! That's something some of us can only dream about!

I had a great time doing this mini photo session with Austin! It was his Mom's idea of course - after Mamie's photos she wanted some new pics of him too. He's not at all interested in being the center of attention so I wanted him to be comfortable in his element and basically do his thing and ignore me. Therefore there aren't many headshots but the images capture his personality perfectly. He's a laid back outdoorsman who enjoys spending time with family and friends, but also appreciates the quiet time when he's one on one with himself and nature. He's a deep thinker & a hard worker...and he's just starting his teen years! I'm so proud that he's growing into such a responsible, appreciative young man - quite the joy to be around. He thanked ME for taking his pictures, even though I know he didn't really have any interest in being in front onf the camera - he just wanted to fish! A friend's pond was the perfect location for Austin to fish & me to snap shots!

Birthday Wishes

As I celebrate another birthday I naturally reflect upon the year that has brought me to this celebration. This is the time that I choose to look at the past, present and future as a whole and make resolutions - this is my new year. I focus moreso on the present and the future, but I'm respectful of the past as I realize that no matter what memories I have of it - it's the reason I am in this very spot today. I flip flop with the idea that in looking towards the future I need to be prepared, I need to have plans - but then again, who knows what tomorrow may bring so shouldn't I just live life in the moment? That's my big question this year and I believe that there is no definitive answer for me or for everyone, it depends on the person & the situation. This year I am going to continue to work on finding a balance between preparation and living in the moment that suits me. I try to better myself each year by being a better person each day - there are 365 days to learn, teach and make a difference and I try to embrace every one possible. This year I am serious about slowing down. My life is going a mile a minute and I love it because I don't like to sit around and be useless - but I feel like I'm missing out on the small things in life because I'm so busy with the big ones. I work hard at my career, events and helping others and it's consuming and before I know it I'm so wrapped up in chaos that I'm just doing the motions - wake up, go to work, help with an event or two, eat, sleep, repeat. It's tragic that weeks and months fly by with the blink of an eye and another birthday is here before I know what hit me. Not that I want to ramble on about my busy schedule, I'll save that for another blog - but basically this year I need to simply learn to say no to the things that I can't and do not want to do and say yes to the things that bring me joy. It's hard for me to turn people down but some are just taking advantage of me now and I need to stop it before I'm 80 and not reflecting on the incredible life I had, but a life that I helped someone else live. I'm not making a difference in the world and I'm not living God's life plan if I do not participate in activites that give me joy, big and small. Ok, enough of the psycotherapy, self-help for one day. Hey, I am Gemini after all so it's never one way of the other with me, I always tend to find a balance of the extremes. The "twins" in me like very different things and get me off track so it can get confusing - I'm indecisive and then I second guess my choices because I truly like everything and I have a terrible time saying no - I'm simply ecclectic. So, another birthday has come and gone I will continue to actively work on trying to extend myself beyond my microuniverse of my job, family, friends and personal life. It's important for every single person, no matter what they do or where they are in life, to participate in the well-being of humanity and the planet. Don't let a year go by knowing you didn't make an effort to do something-no matter how small-outside your own problems and drama.

Puppy Dog Tails

I kinda sorta agreed to I keep Ashley's furball maltese Napolean Bonaparte for a few days - and I was dreading it! The last time I kept him around Christmas was a nightmare. He destroyed the house, marking his territory in every room and on each newly shampooed carpet; chewed shoes, shredded newspaper, barked nonstop all night every night. So to say I was dreading this time was a vast understatement. Well...to my surprise none of that happened this time! - okay, he did mark his territory in every room and on each carpet and that definitely needs some working on because that is a huge pain. But low and behold Napolean Bonaparte has turned over a new leaf - I even wondered a few times if it was the same dog...Ashley's obviously put some blood sweat and tears into getting him on a schedule and he sticks to it wonderfully - I think he was just in an unfamiliar place and had to mark it up and maybe clipping him will take care of that. He was so good that he was enjoyable to have around and Kevin just fell head over heels for him. Who would have thought that Kevin, a big hound lover, would like a furry mini lap dog enough to let him sleep with him and every time I turned around he was outside playing with him? Guess it goes to show that snakes, snails and puppy dogs tails really are what boys are made of!

Mamie's Senior Portraits

My cousin Mamie, a rising Senior has asked me to take Senior Portraits for her! What an exciting proposition and an honor! Of course in order to be in the yearbook she will have to take her cap & gown pictures thru the school picture company. I'm very excited at the idea of taking her portraits and hopefully picking up more business along the way. I'm also scared to death that she won't like them! So my suggestion is that we take lots of different pictures and start early so that if she decides to use the "professional" school company she will still have time. My sister and I did a mini practice session with her and these are some of the results! Mamie was very pleased with what she has seen so far so things are looking good! She is such a gorgeous gal inside and out and that clearly radiates thru the images - all of them are incredible and it makes it very hard to choose from! What a natural beauty!

After After-Prom

Thanks goodness that the Prom is over because that means so is the After-Prom Party! Being on the committee and being a Co-Chair with Tina is like running a small business. This year was especially insane since we decided to switch it up from the bowling alley where it's been the past hundred years - and move it back to the school. Next year it's back to the bowling alley just so we can have a break! Despite all the headaches, tears, nervous breakdowns, problems & complaints - it was worth it to see the students having a great time and being safe. For those of you who don't know the After-Prom Party is a FREE party to our high school juniors & seniors and their dates in order to keep them off of the roads and free of alcohol and drugs because Prom nights is one of the most dangerous nights for teenagers. They get pizza, subs, drinks, sweets, slushies, door prizes every 15 minutes, prizes for winning games - this year we had a cash cage with over 100 prizes and $ that they had to grab as much play money as they could in 15 seconds and turn that in for prizes. Also we had sumo wresting suits, airbrush tattoo booth, rock climbing wall and a DJ & dancefloor. Our theme was Bakinihama Cove - which is Buckingham Cove in Hawaiian - so we had a huge boat and tiki hut for a picture backdrop. We are constantly fundraising and soliciting donations from everywhere you can imagine to get the funds and prizes we need to throw the best party every and we did have some great prizes this year. The prizes get better as the night goes on in order to entice students to stay all night - the grand prizes were a senior portrait package worth $400 & a laptop! We also had tons of big cash prizes like $325 for a senior $ $250 for a junior-8GB mp3/video players-portable dvd players-digital camera-minifridge...I'm glad this year is over so that I can rest up for next year's event!

Bundle of Joy

Tara & I held a baby shower in Tabitha's honor for her 4th addition to the family! Suprisingly, by the time the baby shower came around on 4/27 - so had the baby! Chase Logan was born 4/22 - 5lbs 3oz if I recall correctly. He was a premie by at least 6 weeks. Despite all the stress and worry, Tabitha was able to make it to the shower and we all had a wonderful time - hopefully it took her mind off worries for a few minutes. The lovely ladies of 2sassyscrappers made the trip from Newport News to Farmville - They had never met Tabitha before (shes a DT on their site) but still made the long haul down with lots of gifts collected from site members! Incredible- I've always thought that scrapbooking gals stick together and have the biggest hearts and they proved me right! Chase is still in the NICU & has been for over 17 days but he's doing better each and everyday. His lung capacity is great now, they are just waiting on him to eat like they want him to - then it's home to meet the family! Prayers & best wishes for the Jones family! We love you :)

Sadie

There's a new gal in Kevin's life and I'm afraid I'm no competition. At a little over 12 months old and well over a solid 125 lbs with big slobbering lips - Sadie is the lady of the manor. I feel as if she was rescued - just a few weeks ago she had her first litter of puppies, not good being that she's only a puppy herself, mishaps occured and the owner wanted her gone - that's when Kevin stepped in. She's still a puppy but doesn't realize her incredible size & strength - so all the puppy playfulness, jumping, chasing, chewing - it can be kinda dangerous. Since I'm dogless ( still have my hopes out for Kilean) I've been craving the attention & Sadie slobbers for that puppy love so we are a perfect match - as long as Kevin's not around to invoke her jealousy. He makes me put on an huge insulated pair of coveralls & jacket so that I won't get hurt! It looks like one of those trainer & attack dog demos on america's funniest videos. She tried to eat my camera. She ate thru a jumbo dinosaur-sized bone in a matter of days. She knocks me down. She lifts anything you leave on the ground - including a powerdrill. There is slobber everywhere. She's already chasing racoons & rabbits!- She's gotten doggie bones at the bank drive thru and McD's chicken nuggets! We have to work on her obedience before really letting her loose because of her size & weight but in a few weeks she'll be riding in the truck - lounging in the boat - swimming in the river.

Spring has sprung

Spring is FINALLY here! The sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the afternoon showers have started and early flowers are blooming, it smells like Spring and I'm so thankful! I absolutely love this time of year, it's so promising and carefree. I feel like I can conquer anything and that no dream is out of my reach. Strange how the weather and surroundings can alter your emotions. Kevin surpised me with some lovely tulips this week to provoke up my spring fever and since the sun was shining and I was having camera withdrawals I just had to set up a mini photo shoot with the blooms :)

Eastern Star

I was installed as an Officer of the Order of the Eastern Star this past weekend. My first office is Chaplain! It's a tough job & lots of memory work, but I've been studying & practicing my butt off. I've been in OES for 9 months -I was initiated on my birthday June 18th, so this is my first office & now I have to wear white! The OES is a charitable organization affiliated with the Masonic Lodge. Since the installation was open to the public I invited my grandmother & mom. They thoroughly enjoyed getting a sneak peak into the organization and our work as well as memorable because of our family lineage. My grandmother's father & brothers were all Masons and her mother was OES and actually attended this Fork Union chapter in her later years. Kevin also took the office of Junior Deacon this year with the Masonic Lodge so hopefully we can carry on the tradition. *FYI: My grandmother does not look 89 does she?!
